Switzerland Day 2 - Today we met up with everyone in our tour group . Some had flown in from a different city. We all took a coach to the Lindt Chocolate factory in Zurich. I love chocolate, so this was fun for me. We toured the factory, and learned all about the cocoa beans. They let us try any flavor we wanted, and sent us out the door with a sample of every kind. We checked into The Hotel Glockenhof. One thing we noticed is that the elevators are very small and will hold maybe 4 people. We had time to explore on our own. All the streets are cobblestone. The buildings are all so beautiful with flowers and paintings all over them. We actually got lost and used our apple air tags to find our way back to the hotel. Tonight we had dinner at the Johanniter Restaurant. We were served Roschti. I would describe it like crispy hash browns with an egg on top, and some kind of meat and gravy on the side. We are so worn out because we have been up for 33 hours.
Switzerland - Day #1 - September 29th, 2024
Today was a long travel day. We drove to Las Vegas, then took a flight to San Fransisco. Here we met up with some of the other people in our tour group. (Morris Murdock Travel) Then we flew almost 12 hours to Zurich. They are 8 hours ahead of us, so we landed in the morning, but it felt like midnight. On the long flight we were lucky and had the row to ourselves, so that was nice. Here is a little back story about why we went to Switzerland: When I was 8 years old, my dad gave be a beautiful hard covered book of the Alps. On the front cover was a picture of the Matterhorn. I remember promising my dad that someday I would go there, and see it in person. Well, family, life, money, jobs, etc. stopped us from going. We finally decided to go and signed up to go in 2020, and were also going to Germany to see the Passion Play. Well, then Covid happened, and they cancelled it until 2022. As it turned out, I ended up having a Hiatal Hernia Surgery, and we had to turn down the trip. A year ago, Morris Travel added another tour to Switzerland, and so Doug said we better go this time before we get too old... I had looked at other tours, but they were not going to Zermatt, and that was the whole reason we were going. About 4 months before travel, they called and said they might have to cancel because not enough people had signed up. They said they would wait 2 more weeks, but then they had to decide for sure so they could flights in time. I prayed so hard that it would work out, and obviously it did. In the meantime, I had hurt my back and didn't know if I would be able to do all the walking involved. But my Dr. worked with me and gave me 2 injections in my back 10 days before travel. And 2 days before we were to leave, my toe started hurting really bad. They gave me some medicine, and taped up my toe, and so I was good to go. I took lots of Tylenol and did not slow the group down at all. I am so happy that I finally was able to fulfill the promise!
Amelia - September 2024
Here are a few more pictures of Amelia taken in September. She weighs 6 Pounds 9 Oz. She still is on oxygen.
Amelia - September 18th, 2024
Today was a special day. It was the first time Amelia has been at our house. MaKayla used to come to dinner most Wednesday evenings, but has been at the hospital with Amelia every evening, so she hadn't been for a few months. But tonight she came and so we were able to see them both. It was so special. She was even dressed in purple, my favorite color. I got to hold her for 3 hours while she slept on my chest. Just feeling her breathe and feel her heartbeat was kind of cool. We actually got to hear her cry for the first time. She didn't like getting in her carseat when they left. I hope this is the first of many visits. Doug didn't hold her. He said he will wait until she is off her oxygen. She will be 12 weeks old this week, and still isn't due for 1 more week. What a miracle!!
Amelia Goes Home - September 7th, 2024
Doug and I were on the way to the hospital to visit Amelia, when MaKayla sent us a message and pictures saying they had released her and they were taking her home. She will be 10 weeks old tomorrow. She was in the NICU for 69 days. She is now off the feeding tube, but will still need oxygen for a little while. She weighs 6 Lbs 4 Oz. So she has gained over 4 pounds since she was born. This is such an exciting day for them to finally be home together as a family for the first time.
Holding Amelia - September 1st, 2024
Today Amelia is 9 weeks old. We got to visit her, and we both were able to hold her for the first time. It was so special. She is doing really well eating now, and will be able to go home in the next week or so. She is perfect!
