Switzerland - Day #1 - September 29th, 2024

Today was a long travel day. We drove to Las Vegas, then took a flight to San Fransisco. Here we met up with some of the other people in our tour group. (Morris Murdock Travel) Then we flew almost 12 hours to Zurich. They are 8 hours ahead of us, so we landed in the morning, but it felt like midnight. On the long flight we were lucky and had the row to ourselves, so that was nice. Here is a little back story about why we went to Switzerland: When I was 8 years old, my dad gave be a beautiful hard covered book of the Alps. On the front cover was a picture of the Matterhorn. I remember promising my dad that someday I would go there, and see it in person. Well, family, life, money, jobs, etc. stopped us from going. We finally decided to go and signed up to go in 2020, and were also going to Germany to see the Passion Play. Well, then Covid happened, and they cancelled it until 2022. As it turned out, I ended up having a Hiatal Hernia Surgery, and we had to turn down the trip. A year ago, Morris Travel added another tour to Switzerland, and so Doug said we better go this time before we get too old... I had looked at other tours, but they were not going to Zermatt, and that was the whole reason we were going. About 4 months before travel, they called and said they might have to cancel because not enough people had signed up. They said they would wait 2 more weeks, but then they had to decide for sure so they could flights in time. I prayed so hard that it would work out, and obviously it did. In the meantime, I had hurt my back and didn't know if I would be able to do all the walking involved. But my Dr. worked with me and gave me 2 injections in my back 10 days before travel. And 2 days before we were to leave, my toe started hurting really bad. They gave me some medicine, and taped up my toe, and so I was good to go. I took lots of Tylenol and did not slow the group down at all. I am so happy that I finally was able to fulfill the promise!
