Today was one of the best days of my life. We had to be at the bus at 6 am to take the Gorgernat railway up the mountain. It was very dark out. There were a few clouds but we were hoping it would be clear when we got to the top. We were on the train for over 30 minutes. We couldn't see much. Then it started to get light. I will never forget my first sight of the Matterhorn. I saw it through the window for a few seconds. Then when we came around the next corner, I saw it with the sunrise coming up on the very top of it. It was beautiful. There was not a cloud in the sky. The first 2 pictures I took were taken from the train window. When we got off the train, we had to go through a turnstyle. For some reason, my ticket would't work and kept denying me entrance. Doug had already gone through and was trying to help me. Finally, the guy behind me used his ticket and we both squeezed through. I would have climbed over the fence if I had too. When I came around the corner of the building and saw the Matterhorn I just started sobbing. I was very emotional. I didn't care who saw me. I know it is just a mountain, but to me it was a dream that had finally come true. I couldn't believe I was standing there in person. It is magnificent. A few people from our group came up and gave me a hug. We took a lot of pictures and saw it go from sunrise on the top, to the whole thing out of the shadows. After the pictures, I went off to the side and sat down in the snow and just stared and enjoyed it in the peace and quiet. I blocked everyone else out. We were only able to stay up there for an hour, but I will be forever grateful for Wendy, our guide for trading the tickets and making it happen. It made the whole trip worth it. On the train ride down, we all watched it until it was out of view. I had a lady ask me if it was as beautiful as I had envisioned ? She said a lot of people build up things in their minds and then are disappointed. I told her that I can honestly say it was everything I had imagined and more. The last pictures are from the train window coming down the mountain! I love the village in the photos!
